Etymology of Okklania

As a story

The foundation of Okklania began with Okklan, a small community or a "clan," which supported the creation of the micronation. The founder of Okklania was also one of the two leaders of Okklan (the clan), and this connection was key in the early stages of Okklania’s development.

Initially, we chose the name Okklan Republic for the nation, as it reflected the clan's involvement and the democratic vision we had for the country. However, as Okklania began to evolve, we noticed that the name "Okklan Republic" was becoming increasingly irrelevant to the nation’s growing identity. The term was closely tied to the clan, which at that point had very few members, and we wanted the name of the nation to represent a broader, more independent entity.

Moreover, there was confusion between Okklan (the clan) and Okklan Republic (the micronation). People often didn't know whether we were referring to the clan or the nation, which led to more confusion. To at least partially fix this, we decided to make a shorten name Okklania, inspired by the name Czechia, to provide a short and memorizable name.

As Okklania continued to develop, we also made a significant change in the form of government. On 9th October, 2024, we transitioned from a democratic republic to a monarchy through a vote held in Okklania. After this change, the name Okklan Republic no longer reflected the new structure of the nation. To better represent this shift and avoid further confusion, we decided to change the name to the Monarchy of Okklania, using the shorten name we made before. To avoid the last confusion, we recognized the name Kingdom of Okklania, because it is a clear translation of the current Czech name.

The new name better suited the micronation's identity, making it more different from the clan and making it more independent. After the name change, the king of Okklania also introduced the term Okklaners to refer to the citizens of Okklania.
